Ayawaso By-Election: Kate Gyamfua Mobilizes Support for NPP


The National Women Organiser of the Ruling New Patriotic Party, Madam Kate Gyamfua has started mobilizing support for the NPP’s parliamentary candidate for the upcoming parliamentary by-election in the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency.

The Ayawaso West Wuogon seat became vacant following the untimely demise of the two times Member of Parliament for the Constituency, Mr. Emmanuel Kyeremanteng Agyarko.

Mr. Agyarko, 61, 61, died on Wednesday, November 21, in the United States of America following a short illness.

The NPP on December 29 2018, voted Ms Lydia Seyram Alhassan  to be the party’s candidate for the constituency.

Madam Kate Gyamfua  has since been campaigning in the constituency to get people to vote for Ms. Alhassan.

The NPP has maintained the Ayawaso West Wuogon seat since 2000.

According to Madam Kate Gyamfua, the members of the ruling party must work hard to maintain the seat. In a Facebook post after  campaigning in the Constituency, Madam Kate Gyamfua said “Countdown is on 31/01/19…20days more for the by-election
Let’s retain our seat to ensure perfect continuity in Ayawaso West Wuogon
Lydia Seyram Alhassan is our condidate

Ms. Alhassan will be facing the 2016 parliamentary candidate of the NDC Mr. Delali Kwasi Brempong

Mr. Brempong who polled 22,534 votes representing 39.63%, trailing Mr. Agyarko who polled 32,591votes representing 57.32% in the 2016 election is expected to give Ms. Alhassan a fierce competition on January 31.

Opening of Nomination
Meanwhile, the Electoral Commission opened nomination on yesterday, Thursday, January 10 and is expected to be closed on Saturday, January 12, 2019.
Prospective candidates are to pay a filing fee of GHc10,000 to be able to contest for the seat.
