|The New Ya Naa|
Yoo Naa Abukari Mahama VII, Paramount Chief of Savelugu and Head of the Andani Royal Family has been selected as the new Overlord (Yaa-Naa) of the Dagbon Traditional Area in the Northern Region.
The 70 years old man was selected by kingmakers of Dagbon, led by Kuga-Naa and Gushei-Naa after consulting oracles of the area on Friday.
His selection followed the successful performance of funerals of the two late Overlords of the area, Ya-Na Mahamadu Abdulai (IV) and Ya- Na Yakubu Andani (II) from December 14, 2018 to December 28, 2018, and January 11, 2019 to January 18, 2019 respectively.
The performance of the funerals and the selection of the new Ya-Na were in line with the road map announced by the Committee of Eminent Chiefs that mediated the Dagbon chieftaincy crisis to restore peace to the traditional area.
Ya-Na Abukari Mahama, therefore, succeeded the late Ya-Na Yakubu Andani (II), who was murdered on the throne 17 years ago.
Report suggests that the new Yaa-Naa will move to Katini, a traditional village at Yendi, to undergo the necessary customary rites to officially assume authority as the Overlord of the Dagbon traditional area.
Prior to performance of rituals to enskin the new Yaa Naa, the government has imposed a curfew on the Yendi township.
The Ministry of interior in a statement said the decision was taken based on the advice of the Northern Regional Security Council.
The curfew which takes effect from today January 18, 2019, will start from 5:00pm to and 7:00 am each day.
The move, according to the Interior Ministry will forestall any violence and also to ensure the maintenance of law and order in Kpatinga and its environs.
Ban On weapons
The ministry of interior has also put ban on all persons from carrying arms, ammunition or any offensive weapon adding that any person found with any of such things will be arrested and prosecuted.
