MDCES Undergo ‘Military’ Training

Municipal and District Chief Executives in the Eastern Region on Thursday 7th to Friday 8th February attended a two-day retreat at the Achiase Jungle Warfare School(JWS).

The retreat offered the MDCEs the opportunity to be trained in mental alertness, physical fitness, strategies for team work, time consciousness among others by the staffs of JWS.

Lt. Col. C.T. Broni, Commanding Officer of the School, presented Certificates to the Municipal and District Chief Executives for participating in the retreat.

The retreat was also attended by the Deputy Eastern Regional Minister, Mr. Samuel Nuertey Ayertey.

Speaking at the retreat, Mr. Ayertey underscored the need for the MDCEs to build a stronger team spirit in order to improve workers engagement and build stronger teamwork in their workplaces.

To support the construction of a hostel block for the Jungle Warfare School, which is currently ongoing, the MDCEs donated one hundred bags of cement to fast track the process.

NDC Twist

Meanwhile the opposition NDC  has stated that the MDCEs were taken through the military training ahead of the 2020 general elections.

In a statement signed by its Regional Communication Officer, Darlas A. Williams, the NDC stated that “Our intelligence tells us that these Chief Executives who double as the Chairmen of MUSEC and DISEC are being prepared and ready for aggression for the 2020 elections.”

But responding to the NDC’s twist in an interview with the Daily Statesman, the Eastern Regional Minister Mr. Kwakye Darfuor stated that the retreat and the training is routine exercise that are organized for corporate bodies and therefore cannot be in the bad light.

He said, in October last year, he visited the school to acquaint himself with the activities of the school and it was during that visit that he made the arrangement for the MDCEs adding that the visit was with the consent of the his outfit and the Ministry of Local Government.

He added that the MDCEs attended the retreat with their drivers and aides who were all taken through similar training.

He called on the general public to disregard the lies and propaganda put out there by the NDC.

Meanwhile, the Dean of MDCEs in the Eastern Region and the DCE for Birim South District, Mr. Richmond Amponsah Agyabeng, in whose District the JWS is located, has also rubbished the propaganda thrown out by the NDC.

Speaking with the Daily Statesman, Mr. Amponsah said “reading negative meaning into every activity in the Nation will never do us any good. As Dean of MMDCEs in the Region I refute the meaning that our NDC brethren are attaching to our fruitful Retreat we had recently at Achiase Jungle Warfare school.”

The Achiase Jungle Warfare School is one of the friendliest military garrisons in the country. On every 7th March, the school is opened to the general public for the public to go there, observe their training, fraternize with the military men and make merry.

Aside the Open day which is a national exercise established by the Kufuor regime and is expected to be carried across all military garrisons, the school also welcome cooperate organisations who go there for retreat and training.

Last year, senior staffs of some banks in the country had the opportunity for a four-day training by the school.

In 2017 staffs of Multimedia Group underwent  similar exercise.

This year at the request of Mr. Emmanuel Kwakye former DCE of the Birim South district under the erstwhile Mahama administration, staffs of Queensland school, a private school in the District were there for a similar exercise.

As part of the rules of the JWS, people who go there for training are obliged to be in military uniforms.

This according to management of the school is because the military cannot train civilians and for that matter those who require to be trained must be dressed like military men.

Adding his voice in an exclusive interview with us the former DCE said he is appalled at the twist given to the exercise by his own party people.

He also urged Ghanaians to disregard the propaganda.
