Pupils of Akenkausu Islamic School Study under Tents as Heavy Storm Collapses School Building

Pupils of Akenkausu Islamic Primary School in the Achiase District of Eastern Region are currently studying under rented tents following a heavy storm that unroofed the building of the school and also collapsed part of the school’s building.

The entire roofing of all the classrooms were ripped off whiles part of the building of the Primary School collapsed.
The storm which began in the night of Sunday going deep into the morning of Monday also destroyed several other private and public properties in the district worth several thousands of Ghana cedis.
The heavy downpour also resulted in the flooding of some communities within the district leading to destruction of farm produce among others.
The flooding has been attributed to choked gutters and blocked water ways in such communities.

To prevent further flooding from occurring, the Achiase District Assembly has started dredging water ways and choked gutters in communities such as Akenkausu and Akyem Aperade.
The District Chief Executive of the Achiase District, Richmond Agyabeng Amponsah speaking to The Evening Mail said plans are in place to extend the dredging exercise to other parts of the district.
Some residents who spoke to us pleaded with the government and philanthropist to come to the aid of the communities.
They however thanked God that the incidence occurred in the night saying it would have been fatal if it had occurred in the day with school children in school.
Meanwhile the DCE has promised that, for the school, the Assembly will quickly mobilise resources to get the school back in shape.
