KNUST Bans Sporting Betting Among Students: Rejects Sponsorship from Betting Companies


Authorities of the Kwame Nkrumh University of Science and Techonology (KNUST) have banned betting among students on campus using the school’s wifi.

According information available any student found culpable of the new rule will be rusticated for one year.

The university’s ITS has also been ordered to block all betting websites to make access with the university’s WIFI impossible.

The University has again ban all of its organs from accepting any assistance in a form of sponsorship from any betting company henceforth.

This decision was arrived at an academic board meeting held last Thursday.

The halls, SRC and the entire students have therefore been advised to respect the new rule accordingly.

Students Reaction

Confirming the decision to the, Maxwell Dankwah, PRO of the Students Representative Council (SRC) said the students seem okay with the new rule since it does not block them from using their own data to access the sites.

Mr. Dankwah however denied claims that the ban even affects people using their own data.


Mr. Dankwah said that, the SRC is yet to meet on the directive and has therefore not taken any decision yet.
