A forensic audit conducted by the World Football Governing body, Federation for International Football Association on allegations of corrupt activities at the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has cleared the Association’s former president Kwesi Nyantakyi of any financial impropriety.
According to Ghanasoccernet.com, the audit conducted on the orders of the world governing body some six months ago found no acts of corruption or financial impropriety on Kwesi Nyantakyi during his tenure.
The audit has also cleared members of the Executive Committee of the GFA of any acts of malfeasance.
The report will come as a huge relief for Nyantakyi and the Executive Committee of the Ghana FA as there were suspicions of corruption within the federation.
Ace investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas, recorded Mr. Nyantakyi and some officials of GFA for indulging in corrupt activities.
FIFA banned the Former GFA president and also collapsed GFA. A Normalisation Committee has since been formed to manage all football related activities in the country until a new GFA congress is held to elect new officers.
FIFA then constituted audit into the accounts of the GFA.The FIFA auditing officials, who spent about a month in Ghana investigating the financial affairs of GFA, discovered that neither corruption nor embezzlement took place at the GFA during the tenure of Kwesi Nyantakyi.
According to information available, the audit report concluded that the Ghana FA has only ‘perception issues’ to deal with since media reports of corruption within the federation are ‘wide off the mark’.
However, the FIFA auditors has recommended that the slim accounts office staff must be boosted while modern accountancy software used by some federations like the South African FA must be acquired by the Ghana FA to ease the workload.
Sources say the report has since been made available to the Normalisation Committee of the GFA for about two months now and it is not known why it has so far been kept secret from the public.
