The MP for Effutu Constituency honorable Alexander Afenyo-Markin on the 13th of June,2019 donated a total of One Hundred and Fifty(150) sewing machines to young women in his constituency. These women are women under an apprenticeship programme.
The MP as part of serving his constituents has over the years committed himself to developing the local economy of his constituency through his business support programme.
In presenting the sewing machines to the beneficiaries,he thanked them for choosing to learn a trade. He said about Three(3) years ago,he visited Ashaiman and Tema communities in the Greater Accra Region and what he saw was very sad.According to him, young ladies who were hawking and some who were working for commissions did not have places to sleep when night falls. He described the situation as very worrying for young women who migrate to the cities to find jobs to do since where to take a decent bath etc was very difficult for them.He therefore encouraged the beneficiaries to take good care of the machines donated to them and further promised them that those who would successful complete the apprenticeship, would be given an industrial machine to start with.He said the NPP government is committed to growing individual businesses since it is only through that means that the national economy can grow in getting the country developed.
He encouraged the beneficiaries to work hard and promised them that with the current government’s resolve to assist entrepreneurs to grow,it might happen that by the time they will finish learning their trade, they might not only be assisted with an industrial machine, but they might even be assisted with containers as well.
The MP said to ensure that each community within the Effutu Constituency is served, the beneficiaries of this machines were drawn from all the electoral areas within the constituency He advised constituents who have not yet received their support to remain calm and not to be embittered. He told them to be rest assured that gradually the business support programme will reach everyone who is supposed to be assisted.
The MP took the opportunity to advise the current beneficiaries to value the opportunity given them and make something meaningful out of it.
The business support programme when instituted by the MP has seen over Three Thousand,Two Hundred and Six(3,206) sewing machines being distributed to seamstresses and Taylors. Two Thousand Eight Hundred and Fifty(2,850) hairdryers have also been distributed to beneficiaries in the Effutu Constituency. In addition, over Two Hundred and Twenty One(221) taxis has been given to our taxi drivers as work and pay whilst Two Hundred and Fifty(250) Mansory tools and another Two Hundred and Fifty(250) carpentry tools have also been donated to our young men who have the desire to learn this trades.
The MP however noted that there are some persons when given the opportunity on platforms such as radio to speak to the developmental issues of this constituency, what they rather seek to do is to discourage our brothers and sisters who have been given an opportunity to better their lives through this interventions. He said, some people call into ‘woso kebi’ a program that is aired on radio peace a local radio station in Effutu and say sharing sewing machines to this young ladies to enable them learn a trade and better their lives as a result is a useless exercise. How pathetic.
The Member of Parliament has assured his constituents of his continuous support to ensure that their wellbeing as a people and the total development of Effutu Constituency and Ghana as a whole will remain paramount to him.
