Eleven graduate students from various universities in the country have picked forms to contest for the five available slots in this year’s Graduate Students Association of Ghana (GRASAG NATIONAL) election.
The 11 include two former Local GRASAG Presidents who will be battling for the presidency position.
Mr. Godwin Kusi-Danquah, popularly referred to in students activism as Lazio, a Local GRASAG President of the University of Education, Winneba will be battling with Mr. Kwame Gyamfi Twumasi also referred to as Chibsah, a Local GRASAG President of the University for Professional Studies, Accra.
Both local GRASAG Presidents will have to face it off with Mr. Samuel Sagoe, a student of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology for the position of president.
General Secretary
Meanwhile, Mr. Dickson Osei-Kwadwo, a student of the Kumasi Campus of the University of Education will also have to face it off with a former Local NUGS President of the Ajumako Campus of the same University of Education who is now reading his Master’s at the University of Ghana and current Chairman of the GRASAG National Editorial Board, Kwasi Frimpong SayItRight for the position of General Secretary.
Unopposed
Mr. Harrison Dormenyo Agbedanu will have no challenge in the election as he is the only person who had filed for the Organising Coordinator Position as at the close of nomination.
Gender Representation
The next set of GRASAG National Executive will have just one woman in the team since no woman filed to contest for any other portfolio except the portfolio reserved specifically for women, the Gender Commissioner.
This is seen as a set back to the gender parity struggle as many thought it is about time women participation in decision making increases. The current crop of executives have three women in the set including the first ever female president of GRASAG National Iris Mensah Kwafo.
Meanwhile three ladies have filed to contest for the Gender Commissioner Position.
