Manual for managing school libraries launched

A new manual for managing school libraries in Ghana has been launched in the Ashanti Region.

The manual, authored by the Ghana Library Authority forms part of efforts to instil reading culture among young people in Ghana.

The Acting Executive Director of the Ghana Library Authority, Hayford Siaw, explained that several findings of past reports highlighted the need for school libraries to be developed as an integral part of the nation’s education agenda but the country has only paid lip service to it.“An opportunity has [however] presented itself through the instrumentality of the Minister of Education, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh for the country to be restored back on to the trajectory of enhanced quality education through an efficient library system,” Mr. Siaw said.
