Dakoa Newman, a construction project manager, has filed her nomination to contest the Okai Koi South constituency primaries of the governing New Patriotic Party.
Ms Newman, who filed her nomination on Friday, was accompanied by a huge crowd comprising youth groups and party delegates. She was met on arrival by the party’s executives at the constituency office who received her forms.
Speaking to journalists shortly after submitting her forms, Ms Newman promised new hope for the area, should she be elected to lead the party and, subsequently, win the seat in the December 2020 parliamentary elections.
She said the constituency has not seen much development over the years, and pledged to provide jobs and address the infrastructural deficits in the constituency.
Ms Newman is currently a polling station woman organiser in the Kaneshie Zone of the constituency.
She is an old student of Wesley Girls Senior High School, Cape Coast, and holds a political science degree from the University of Ghana, as well as a Master’s Degree in Programme and Project management from the University of Warwick, United Kingdom.
She also holds professional certificates in project management and risk management from the Project Management Institute, USA.
She first worked as a project officer at Buildhaap Ghana, before heading to work as the resident construction project manager for the West Hills Malls. She has also worked as the construction project manager at Ecobank’s dead office in Ridge, Achimota Mall and Kotoka International Airport Terminal 3.
She is the founder of DNF Ghana, a development and humanitarian non-governmental organisation that advances social welfare causes and poverty alleviation.
