Akufo-Addo in self-isolation after exposure to Covid-19

President Akufo-Addo

Following the confirmed novel coronavirus positive case of at least one person within his “close circle”, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has chosen to go into self-isolation on the advice of doctors.

Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, in a statement, said the President took the “14-day precautionary self-isolation measure in compliance with Covid-19 protocols.”

The statement said the President has so far tested negative, adding that he “elected to take this measure out of the abundance of caution.”

“The President, during this precautionary self-isolation period, will be working from the Presidential Villa at the Jubilee House,” the statement said.

The President’s self-isolation comes after some members of his government are confirmed to have tested positive to the deadly virus.

Health Minister Kwaku Agyeman-Manu, who had previously tested positive and was hospitalized, is said to have revered.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Dr Lydia Dsane-Selby, also tested positive, but she is also said to have recovered.

Two government officials have, however, succumbed to the disease. They are the CEO of the Forestry Commission, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, popularly known as Sir John, and Kobina Kurentsi Sam, the Mayor of Sekondi-Takoradi.

Carlos Ahenkorah resigns

On Friday, the President accepted the resignation of the Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, Carlos Kingsley Ahenkorah, with immediate effect.
