School disturbance happened behind us, Bright SHS management clarifies


Authorities of Bright Senior High School at Akyem Kukurantumi, a private SHS in the Eastern Region, have stated that the unfortunate incident that happened in the school, recently, occurred at a time that management and staff of the school had been prevented from having access to the facility.

In a statement, management of the school denied media report that the Proprietor of the school, Bright Nyarko Amponsah, instigated the students to attack officials of the West African Examination Council (WAEC) and a Daily Graphic Reporter.

Video evidence

In a video footage, that has gone viral on social media, authorities of the school are seen in a heated argument with an unknown person who presented himself as a security officer, hired by WAEC, to prevent authorities of the school from visiting the premises at the time of the exams.

Report says there were over 20 of such people in the school during the examination.

Explaining, the management said even when there were report that a student had, unfortunately, retaliated a slap on him by an invigilator provided by the Ghana Education Service (GES) leading to a scuffle at the examination hall, the said ‘security’ operatives prevented the Principal of the school from entering the premises to restore calm.

In the video, management of the school were seen expressing their frustration about what the school could have done wrong to warrant the arbitrary decision by WAEC and GES to prevent their own staff from invigilating in this year’s examination, which has always been the norm, and even go further to prevent them from accessing their facility.

After event

Responding to content of an initial video that went viral in which the Proprietor of the school was seen calling on his students to come out, head of Communication at the School, Dr Isaac Asare, explained that that particular scene was filmed after the examination hours.

“The president was not allowed by the security men at the main entrance to enter the examination centre, so how can he instigate the students to do such an awful act” the PRO wondered

“Again, the Director could not have asked the students to stop writing because the exam was over anyway,” he added.

Information gathered and same confirmed by New Tafo Akyem District Police Command, says at the time of the violence, the director of the school, Bright Amponsah, was at the Police station and no where near the school’s premises.
