The Ga-Dangme Caucus of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has expressed its appreciation and support for former President John Dramani Mahama’s decision to establish a commission to investigate the issue of looted state lands, with a particular focus on Ga-Dangme state lands. In a press release issued today, the caucus highlighted the significance of this commitment in addressing the long-standing concerns of the Ga-Dangme people.

The press release emphasized that the acquisition and expropriation of lands in the Greater Accra Region over the years have infringed upon the fundamental rights of land ownership for the Ga-Dangme community. Furthermore, the caucus expressed deep disappointment and concern over the alleged involvement of officials from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government in the improper acquisition and looting of Ga State lands, viewing it as a betrayal of their duty and a severe threat to the survival of Ga-Dangme indigenes.

In light of these circumstances, the Ga-Dangme Caucus welcomed the commitment made by former President John Dramani Mahama during his recent victory acceptance speech in Tamale. By pledging to establish a commission tasked with investigating and providing appropriate recommendations on the issue of looted state lands, Mahama has struck a chord with the Ga-Dangme community and aligned with their pursuit of justice.

The caucus expressed its wholehearted support for John Dramani Mahama and assured him of their unwavering commitment to see this initiative through, particularly during the upcoming 2024 general elections. The press release concluded with a resounding affirmation of solidarity for the Ga-Dangme people and the nation of Ghana.

The NDC Ga-Dangme Caucus’s commendation signifies the importance of addressing the concerns surrounding state-land looting, particularly within the Ga-Dangme community. With the establishment of the proposed commission, it is hoped that a comprehensive investigation will shed light on the issue and pave the way for appropriate actions to rectify past injustices and ensure a fair and just distribution of land resources in the Greater Accra Region.

The upcoming 2024 general elections will likely serve as a critical juncture for the realization of this initiative, as voters will have the opportunity to support the vision of John Dramani Mahama and the NDC in addressing the concerns of the Ga-Dangme community and working towards a more equitable future for all Ghanaians.
