President Akufo-Addo
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has congratulated beneficiaries of the Accelerated Oil and Gas Capacity-Building Programme (AOGC), and urged them to work hard, and with integrity, knowing that a lot of people will be wishing them success.
“The resources are here in our country, so our responsibility is to make sure we are the principal beneficiaries of those resources, not just in terms of their exploitation but also in terms of the human resource that is responsible for developing it.
“And I think this is a very good beginning that we have witnessed here this afternoon,” President Akufo-Addo said yesterday when he received beneficiaries of the programme at the Banquet Hall of the Jubilee House.
The programme, set to run for five years, seeks to train individuals in various vocational and technical areas as well as to build the capacity of educational institutions to be able to train students and award internationally recognized training certificates.
Success
Addressing the graduates, the President said it was refreshing to have the students back.
“I remember when this whole adventure began, and it’s good that it has ended well. First of all, I have to congratulate the graduates. Well done! You have gone, you have conquered and come back,” the President said.
He, however, reminded the graduates that even though academic prowess is necessary, it is not a sufficient condition for success.
“It is now that you are going to learn on the job, the full dimensions of what you have learned in the classrooms. I have to wish you the very best of luck,” he said.
The President also commended the Petroleum Commission for the initiative and seeing it through.
He admitted that even though the gender composition was not the best, solace can be taken in the fact that the programme was financed by a woman.
Baker Hughes
President Akufo-Addo further lauded the partnership between the Government of Ghana and Baker Hughes, a major player and well known company in the oil industry.
The President said with the world now battling the Covid-19 pandemic, a lot of sectors in the economy have been affected.
“But I have no doubt that, soon, things will find their equilibrium and you will find out that what you have gone to learn out there there will be a lot of demand,” he assured them.
