Dr. Anthony Akoto Osei

The Minister for Monitoring and Evaluation, Dr Anthony Akoto Osei, has stated that the New Patriotic Party (NPP)’s government has been poor at communicating its achievement made within the last three years.

Dr. Akoto Osei says the government’s inability to communicate its achievement accounts for the reason why many Ghanaians are unable to appreciate the successes made by the government.

He added that the party while in opposition also did not take time to explain its promises well hence making a lot of Ghanaians have wrong impression about what the party actually meant to do.  “I don’t think we took time enough to explain to people what was involved. I think, later on, people have understood it better. For example, people thought that one district one factory meant one new factory per district. No, that was never the case,” he said.

Results fair

Dr. Akoto Osei was speaking at the maiden results fair organized by the government at the Accra International Conference Centre. The event according to the government is geared towards creating a platform for the various Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to recount their achievements since they assumed office.

The Minister for Monitoring and Evaluation has said the communication of government’s flagship programmes as well as its achievements has been poor.

Dr. Akoto Osei said that is the reason why most Ghanaians do not fully understand the flagship programmes and thus are unable to identify the government’s successes.

He indicated that one of the many reasons for the fair is for the government to be able to communicate its achievement and policies to the people

What others are doing

He stated that the Results Fair is to also afford other Ministers the chance to know what their colleagues have been up to since taking office. “Even we ourselves, we don’t know what our colleagues have done. And it is not deliberately concealing information it’s the way we do things,” he indicated. He expressed hope that the results fair will help Ghanaians to appreciate further what the government promised to do and the gains it has made so far.
