The Eastern Regional Minister and Member of Parliament for Nkawkaw, Eric Kwakye Darfour, has stated that he is ‘extremely’ committed to seeing to the completion of some ongoing road projects in his constituency.
Mr. Darfour who disclosed this to the Evening Mail stated that he is interested in ensuring that some road projects such as the 10-kilometre town roads in Nkawkaw, 22 -kilometre Awenade-Pankese road and eight-kilometre Banka junction –Akwasiho road are all worked on in record time.
Other roads which the minister indicated would be fixed are the five-kilometre Akwasiho –Twenedurase, and the 14 kilometre Kwahu Nsabaa-Akutuase road, which is currently under procurement.
Call for Patience
Mr. Darfour called on public to be patient saying although he is committed to ensuring the roads are done on time, the completion of the roads depends on the technical and financial capacity of both Government and the Contractor. He urged the constituents avoid politicization of the jobs that are currently been done as such propaganda twist would lead to no good end.
“All these projects and others will be completed in the fullness of time for the benefit of all of us,” he said.
Condition of roads
There has been growing concern about the state of roads in the Eastern Region. MPs from the area have been punchbags of attacks by the public for what they describe as “the MPs’ inability to lobby for road projects”. An Afrobarometer report released last year showed that majority of Ghanaians see roads as the main challenge of the country. Records indicate that, 61 per cent of the roads in the region are in deplorable condition.
