The United States of America (USA) branch of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has organised a free health screening and medication exercise for the people of Ketu South in the Volta Region.
The exercise was a collaborative effort by the New York chapter of NPP-USA and the NPP Global Medical Team.
Speaking to the media on the side-lines of the exercise, Mrs Obaa Yaa Frimpong, the Chairperson of the NPP-USA branch, said the health concern and needs of the people should be paramount to politicians since a healthy people guarantees a healthy nation.
Living a healthy life
The Secretary of the NPP Global Medical Team, Dr Stephen Kofi Amankwah, said most of the people who were screened were above 60 years, and were diagnosed with chronic diseases.
He mentioned that a brief interrogation of some of the participants showed that they had not been visiting the hospital for proper health care due to financial constraints and expired health insurance.
He educated them on how to live a healthy lifestyle to avoid any health inconveniences. He also promised to work things out to renew the health insurance for some of the participants so that they can visit the hospital when the need arises.
Donation
The group, after the exercise, donated some souvenirs to the executives of the NPP in the area to help facilitate an easy campaign ahead of the December elections.
Mrs Frimpong stated that there’s hope that the NPP can win the Ketu South constituency parliamentary seat for the first time, looking at how they managed to close the gap in 2016 compared, to that of 2012 and the good work they have executed in the area.
The Operations Director of Global Medical Team, Fred Okyere, called on the people of the area to remember the governing NPP when they go to the polls on December 7.
Assembly Member for Tsiame Electoral Area, Bernard Sukar, thanked the team for their efforts. He asked them not to let it be a one-off thing to defray assumption that the exercise was a vote buying gimmick.
He noted that the important thing for every nation is to maintain and keep a healthy population.
