The Concerned Voters Movement (CVM) has urged Ghanaians to be calm and continue to believe in President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, as he remains committed to tacking the challenges facing the country.
According to CVM, President Akufo-Addo’s track record suggests that he is better at fixing the challenges facing the country than his predecessor, former President John Dramani Mahama.
“It is important to point out that, majority of the problems that people are putting pressure on Akufo-Addo’s government to fix were the problems caused by the incompetence of John Mahama’s government.
“However, President Akufo-Addo has fixed most of the problems he inherited from Mahama in his first term and, most definitely, he is on course fixing the rest of the problems in his second term,” a statement signed by Razak Kojo Opoku, founder and president of the group, said.
Successes
Listing some achievement of the Akufo-Addo government to buttress the point, CVM noted that the government has so far created millions of jobs for Ghanaians through initiatives such as NABCO, One District One Factory, NEIP, Planting and Rearing for Food and Jobs, among others.
It also noted that the government has solved the financial crisis that collapsed the banking sector, costing the country over GHC 21 billion; reduced the rate of borrowing; fighting the galamsey menace; building several road and railway projects; restored teachers and nursing trainees allowances and revived the Ghanacard system.
Other achievement include formalization of the economy through digitalization and digitization policies; proper and effective management of the COVID-19 pandemic; effective management of the policy rate, inflation rate and other indicators of the economy; passed the Right to Information Act 2019(Act 989), which is aimed at deepening press freedom, free speech and free access to information; and introduced the Free SHS to give education to millions of Ghanaian kids.
“The concerns and expectations of Ghanaians are very legitimate, but CVM would like to passionately appeal to the conscience of Ghanaians that President Akufo-Addo is not sleeping on his job. In fact, President Akufo-Addo has demonstrated beyond reasonable doubt that he is very committed to addressing the concerns and expectations of Ghanaians,” it added.
