Okyenhene Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin
The Okyenhene, Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin, has called on the privileged in society to return to their roots, and support the development of their communities.
He made the call at a durbar organized by the Adonten division of the Akyem Abuakwa State as part of his 25th anniversary celebration on the Ofori Panin stool.
The Okyenhene acknowledged the significant achievements of citizens from Kukurantumi and Tafo. He noted that the Adonten division is a hub of knowledge, evidenced by the numerous educational institutions in Kukurantumi and Tafo.
He touted the contributions of prominent figures in the Information Technology sector and other areas to national development. He further encouraged those in high places to support Okyeman’s development agenda.
“Those who have benefited from their community should endeavour to come home and support. If someone pushed you to a higher place, you must pay back to society. The old men and women who took you through school are still alive; you must take care of them as well,” he stated.
The Okyenhene urged the Adonten division to continue cohabiting in unity, despite any internal conflicts, and to resolve chieftaincy matters through traditional and customary procedures.
Praise
During the event, Adontenhene and Kukurantumihene, Daasebre Boamah Darko, praised the Okyenhene’s exceptional leadership and service over the past 25 years. He cited numerous developmental projects, including the construction of 10 basic schools named Amoatia Ofori Panin Model Schools, the establishment of the University College of Agriculture, Environment and Science and initiatives addressing climate change and global warming.
The Adonten division, second in command within the Akyem Abuakwa State, administers over 155 towns and villages, including Kukurantumi, Tafo, Asuom, Apapam, Takyiman, Osiem, Adoagyiri, Nkronso and Akooko.
The durbar
The durbar marked the first of five divisional durbars celebrating the Okyenhene’s 25th anniversary, with upcoming events including the Benkum Divisional Durbar in Begoro on June 21, 2024, Grand Ohum Durbar in Kyebi on July 20, 2024, Gyase/Kwaben Divisional Durbar on September 27, 2024, Asona Family Reunion on October 4, 2024, and the 25th Anniversary Football Gala on October 5, 2024.
On June 3, 2024, in collaboration with the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, the Okyenhene will launch the One Million Tree Planting Exercise and One Student One Tree Project at Abuakwa State College (ABUSCO).
Other events for the year include Okyeman Congress and Awards Night on October 19, 2024, Okyeman Fun & Food Fair on November 23, 2024, Golf Tournament on November 30, 2024, Non-Denominational Birthday Thanksgiving Service on December 14, 2024, Mega Musical Concert on December 14, 2024, and a Children’s Party on December 28, 2024.
