The Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs has taken delivery of 129 vehicles for distribution to Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) across 12 selected regions.

In a directive dated October 16, 2026, the Ministry instructed the beneficiary MMDCEs to report to its headquarters in Accra with their drivers on Tuesday, October 20, to collect their assigned vehicles.

The directive, signed by Chief Director Amin Abdul-Rahaman on behalf of the Minister, covers MMDCEs in the Upper East, Upper West, Northern, North East, Savannah, Bono, Bono East, Ahafo, Volta, Oti and Western North regions, as well as nine selected districts in the Central Region.

Nine Central Region Districts Selected

The Ministry indicated that only nine districts in the Central Region have been included in the initial distribution exercise.

It explained that the affected MMDCEs would be contacted directly on Monday, October 19, 2026, ahead of the scheduled collection.

The communication did not identify the nine selected districts or provide details of the criteria used to determine the first beneficiaries.

It also did not disclose the make, model or cost of the vehicles, or indicate when subsequent batches would be distributed to the remaining MMDCEs.

Regional Ministers Directed to Coordinate

The Ministry has requested regional ministers responsible for the affected areas to ensure that all eligible MMDCEs receive the directive and make the necessary arrangements to collect their vehicles.

The communication was addressed to the affected regional ministers and Regional Coordinating Councils, with copies to the Minister, Deputy Minister, affected MMDCEs and relevant administrative officials.

MMDCEs requiring further clarification have been directed to contact the Ministry’s Director of General Administration.

The distribution marks the commencement of the Ministry’s vehicle allocation exercise for local government chief executives, although the total number of vehicles expected under the programme has not been disclosed.
