Ghana has stepped up efforts to attract Chinese investment and deepen mining cooperation, with Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Sulemana Yusif, leading a high-powered delegation to engage the Vice-Chairperson of the People’s Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, H.E. Sui Guohua, ahead of the China-ASEAN (Guangxi) Mining Cooperation Conference in Nanning.
The courtesy call, held on Thursday, November 5, 2026, focused on strengthening government-to-government relations and exploring practical areas of collaboration in mineral exploration, technology transfer, investment and local value addition.
Welcoming the Ghanaian delegation, H.E. Sui Guohua highlighted Guangxi’s industrial and mineral processing capabilities and expressed interest in strengthening cooperation with Ghana, particularly in mineral development and industrial partnerships.
The engagements also featured a welcoming banquet in honour of the visiting dignitaries, providing a further opportunity to foster friendship and strengthen ties between the two sides.
Making a strong case for Ghana as an attractive mining investment destination, Hon. Sulemana Yusif highlighted the country’s rich mineral endowment, noting that gold, bauxite, iron ore, graphite, lithium and manganese remain central to Ghana’s economic transformation.
He disclosed that the mining sector contributed approximately 9.98 per cent to GDP in 2025, while gold production reached a record 5.94 million ounces, placing Ghana sixth among the world’s leading gold producers and retaining its position as Africa’s largest producer.
Looking ahead, the Deputy Minister called for stronger Ghana-China collaboration in local mineral processing, geological exploration, technology transfer, skills development, responsible small-scale mining and environmental protection. He emphasised that Ghana’s ambition goes beyond increasing mineral production to retaining more value within the country through industrialisation, job creation and greater Ghanaian participation across the mining value chain.
The discussions also pointed to opportunities for both sides to build on existing engagements and translate their shared interests into practical investment and technical partnerships. Reaffirming Ghana’s readiness to work with international partners, Hon. Sulemana Yusif said the country was open for business and partnerships that would help unlock the full potential of its mineral resources.
