FOLLOWING HEAVY downpour in most parts of the country yesterday, the Accra-Tema Motorway was submerged in the floodwater.
The Monday rainfall which lasted more than an hour flooded the entire motorway and compelled motorists on both ends of the expressway to park their vehicles.
Most drivers, passengers and commuters either going to Accra or Tema waited helplessly in anticipation of an early subsiding of the deluge so they could continue with their trips.
Personnel from the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) were yet to get to the flood scene at the time of filing this report.
The Ghana Police Service cautioned motorists traveling along the motorway to be cautious.
A statement issued by police on its social media handle stated that “Motorists plying that stretch should be mindful and reduce their speed limit”.
It continued that police personnel were at the scene to manage traffic on the expressway.
“Accra -Tema Motorway is flooded due to the downpour this afternoon, Monday 28th October 2019. Motorists plying that stretch should be mindful and reduce their speed limit. Police Officers are at the scene to manage traffic on the road.” The statement said.
The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMA) has predicted more rains in the coming weeks.
