The Greater Accra branch of the Association of Lotto Marketing Companies (ALMC) says the operations of ‘Banker-to-Banker’ lotto operators is destroying their activities. It has, thus, rejected claims that it is rather the activities of KGL Technology Limited that is affecting its business.
The Association claimed that Banker-to-Banker operators, including their agents and writers, have covered 75 per cent of the activities of the National Lottery Authority (NLA) for so many years with impunity without paying anything to the Authority.
In a statement signed by Andrew Ofori Kwarteng, Secretary of ALMC, it questioned the activities of Banker-to-Banker operators, adding that if not cautioned, their activities would cause the collapse of the lotto regulator.
“The major problem confronting the NLA and the LMCs is rather the massive encroachment being perpetrated by the Banker-to-Banker operators,” it said.
“Even now that they claim to have obtained some licenses, which seems to be under some suspicious terms, what they are paying to the NLA can be described as miserly donations which is nothing to write home about, as compared to what KGL has paid to the NLA for only one year but is not making ugly noises like them. The modus operandi of the Banker-to-Banker is such that if care is not taken, the NLA would completely collapse,” it added.
It further referred to the introduction of the electronic sales as a measure by the NLA to put to an end the activities of Banker-to-Banker operators.
Ignore them
It is in this direction that the Association announced its disassociation from the various press conferences and meetings staged by the Concerned Lotto Marketing Companies (LMCS).
“In our view, the reason adduced by the Concerned Lotto Marketing Companies is untenable since our National Executives are already in talks with the current Management of the NLA in a bid to introduce measures based on proposals they have submitted to them. These include some innovations that will ensure that as LMCs, we shall continue to be in business and the prospects look very good for our members,” it said.
“Our policy is to help the NLA to promote policies and programmes that would ensure an integrated growth where the Authority would grow together with all its stakeholders including all the LMCs without any hindrance and anything that would undermine this agenda would not be countenanced,” it added.
