The Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA) has donated medical supplies and equipment worth over GHc45,000.00 to the Bomdwen Health Centre at Abompe in the Fanteakwa South District of the Eastern Region.
The donation which is a Corporate Social Responsibility program of GEPA is part of activities to mark the organisation’s 50th Anniversary Celebration.
The kind gesture was in fulfillment of a promise made by the Chief Executive Officer of GEPA, Ms Afua Asabea Asare to the Abompe Bauxite Beads Producers Association and the Health Centre when she led a team to commission the Abompe Bauxite Beads Craft center earlier this year.
Bead Centre
The Abompe Bauxite Beads Craft Centre was constructed by GEPA for the Abompe community. The Center was constructed due to the uniqueness in artefacts of beads making from the Abompe area. The center was constructed to help the people get a serene atmosphere for the production of Bauxite Beads in the area for export.
During the commissioning earlier this year the chiefs and people of Abompe pleaded with GEPA to help stock the Abompe Community Clinic which was becoming a white elephant after its construction. GEPA therefore donated 200 bottles of methylated spirit, 300 packs of multivitamin tablets, 500 bottles of Syrup Multivitamin, 50 packs of Paracetamol Tablets and 200 packs of Diclofenac Gel to the clinic.
Others were 100 Packs of Diclofenac injection, 10 packs of Glucometer (which was added by Ernest Chemist for free), 20 packs of Test Stripes and 100 packs of Flagyl. 150 packs of Amoxicillin capsules, 1000 bottles of Paracetamol syrup, 250 rolls of Cotton wool and 500 packs of Gloves were also added.
Mr Albert Kassim Diwura, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of GEPA with assistance from Ms Akua Agyeiwaa Botwe, Director, HR and Administration presented the items to the community on behalf of GEPA.
Purpose
Mr Diwura stated that, one of GEPA’s major motivations for the donation was to resource the Bomdwen Health facility to better serve members of the Abompe Bauxite Beads Producers Association. He added that, it’s the duty of GEPA to promote made in Ghana goods to the foreign market hence the decision to help people in the industry to get the needed peace of mind and resources to produce more.
Nana Buabeng II, Sanaahene of Abompe who doubles as the Chairman of the Association expressed their utmost appreciation to GEPA for such a phenomenal gesture in the life of the bauxite beads producers and the surrounding villages.
The caretaker/head of the health centre, Mrs Lydia Yeboah (Snr. Staff Midwife) and her staff said they were overwhelmed by the quantum of medical supplies donated to the facility. She assured the GEPA Team that they will work diligently to ensure the health and wellbeing of all the village folks.
