Christian leaders, especially pastors, have been asked to commit to excellence by eschewing all tendencies that bring the Christian faith into disrepute.
To this end, pastors have been asked to keep watch over themselves by guarding against false teachings and unforgiveness.
Rev Dr Richard Osei-Asante, Madina District Pastor of the Assemblies of God Church, Ghana, who gave the advice, also urged pastors to shepherd the church of God and leave the work of partisan politics to people who have opted to do so.
He further urged Christian leaders to commit themselves to the study of the Bible and free themselves from self-interest.
Installation
Rev Dr Osei-Asante was speaking on Sunday at the Calvary Love Assemblies of God in East Legon, Accra, during the installation of Rev Theophilus Klottey Odonkor as the lead pastor of the church.
Rev Odonkor’s installation officially makes him the head-pastor of Calvary Love Assemblies of God following the demise of the head pastor of the church.
In his inaugural address, Rev Odonkor expressed appreciation to the Greater Accra Regional leadership of the church for recommending him as the lead pastor of the church.
Rev Odonkor, who had been acting as the head pastor of the church since March 24, 2019, promised to allow God to use him to transform the Calvary Love Assembly of the church.
Rev Dr Osei-Asante expressed happiness for having Rev Odonkor at the Madina District of the church.
“We as pastors in the District are delighted to be associated with the ministry of our brother. We are satisfied to welcome you into our distinguished group of pastors who have demonstrated intellectual and spiritual integrity in our diverse way of ministries,” he said.
Rev Dr Stephen Yenusom Wengam, immediate past Chairman of the Ghana Prisons Service Council and lead pastor of the Cedar Mountain Chapel Assemblies of God, described Rev Odonkor as a “trusted confidante”.
“He is selfless and eschews envy. He rejoices over his neighbour’s success sincerely,” he said.
About Rev Odonkor
Rev Odonkor got born again on October 15, 1989. After his water and spiritual baptism, he began to preach on the streets of Sekondi, hospitals, schools and other places. As a dedicated young man in his local church, his lead pastor appointed him to form and lead a youth prayer group called “All things are Possible Prayer Team”. This group of 15 members, under his leadership, grew to over 120 members and became the prayer grounds for new converts.
In 1994, he enrolled for the Christian Workers Course at the Southern Ghana Bible College, now Assemblies of God Theological Seminary (AGTS).
After his graduation from AGTS, Rev Odonkor sought transfer from the Western Region to the Greater Accra Region where he continued his work as a revivalist while pastoring the Grace Assemblies of God church. He later took pastoral service as an associate pastor with the Peace Assemblies of God, Tema Community 1. He later became a senior associate pastor in the absence of his senior pastor during his further studies.
In 2006, after series of relentless prayers, Rev Odonkor left Peace Assemblies of God and started the Cornerstone Family Assemblies of God at Tema Community 9.
He was appointed the Tema District Assemblies of God Youth Coordinator from 2017 to 2018 and on March 2019 was appointed acting lead pastor at the Calvary Love Assemblies of God.
