The Ministry of Roads and Highways says the portion of the Okponglo-East Legon intersection that was closed down after it caved in has now been opened.
It has however cautioned motorists plying that stretch to comply with safety measures as maintenance works continue.
The Head of Public Relations at the Ministry, Winnifred Nafisa Mahama in a Citi News interview said, the reopening is to allow engineers to test the densification of the road before asphalt works will commence.
The road works are ongoing but the road has been opened to traffic for a few days. This is for the engineers to ascertain densification before asphalting works will commence. Hopefully, we should be done in due time for everybody to use the road. Motorists should keep on observing the safety measures that have been put in place. They should just be cautious while driving.”
Last week, a section of the Legon Okponglo road was rendered unmotorable after it caved in following what was said to be as a result of a burst underground pipe.
The situation led to a temporary closure for repair works to commence – the Ministry also indicated that, it will take a week for the road to be fixed.
The development heavily affected traffic on that stretch.
