The Elevate Women’s Network in collaboration with the Member of Parliament of Gomoa West Constituency, Hon Alexander Kodwo Kom Abban, who doubles as the Deputy Minister for Health, on Saturday, March 28, 2020, donated over 2500 hand sanitizers, 2500 liquid soaps, 200 Veronica Buckets, 300 tissues/ paper towels, 200 mattresses, 200 energy drinks, 2000 gloves, 2000 nose masks and 1000 protective clothes all items worth over GHC30,000.00 to Health facilities across the Gomoa West Constituency.

Elevate Women’s Network, is an NGO founded by Madam Lydia N.A. Atiemo, the Deputy CEO of Youth Employment Agency in charge of Finance and Administration with prime aim of inspiring, empowering and promoting women’s participation at all levels of public and political lives for effective representation in decision making.

Madam Lydia N.A. Atiemo also paid the medical bills of some 10 patients to allow them to be discharged in order to create space for new patients to be admitted. She stressed on her strong desire to always give assistance to the needy in society and called on all other natives from the Constituency who have the wherewithal to come to the aid of their people in these difficult times. “It is a moral obligation to always give back to society”, she emphasized.

The health facilities that benefited were the Apam St. Luke Catholic hospital, the Dawurampong Polyclinic, Gomoa Brofo Health Centre and the Mumford CHIP compound. The medical officers who received the items on behalf of their respective managements thanked the CEO of Elevate Women’s Network and the Member of Parliament in the area for the gesture and assured them of their readiness to use these items for the good of the people in the Constituency.

The nurses who were on duty could also not hide their excitement as they have been looking forward to having these Personal Protective Equipment in the wake of the national fight against the deadly COVID-19 pandemic.

The Hon Member of Parliament on his part took the opportunity to educate the constituents and health personnel present on the Covid-19 virus and how to contain and prevent it from spreading in the area. He briefed them on the efforts by the President and government and urged the people to adhere strictly to all the directives by the President on social distancing and the need to ensure hygienic conditions at their various homes by always washing their hands with soaps and running water.

There is no better vaccine in the world than keeping your hands and environment always clean, the MP emphasized. He thanked his people for their support and appealed to them to continue to support the Akufo-Addo government as we battle the Coronavirus pandemic.

The team also made provisions for sanitizers, soaps, Veronica buckets and paper towels to be supplied to all the markets centres and lorry stations in the Constituency.

Some key persons who accompanied the MP and the CEO of the Elevate Women’s Network to undertake this exercise were the Corporate Communications Manager of Metro Mass and Director of Communications for the foundation, Constituency Executives of NPP, Polling Station Executives, some Assembly Members in the area, staff of YEA and members of the foundation.

The Elevate Women’s Network, according to its founder and leader, looks forward to carrying out a similar donation in other parts of the country and therefore appeals to Corporate Ghana and other worthy individuals to come to their aid in terms funding to be able to continue with their good works and to reach out to many communities in the country as we battle this deadly Covid 19 pandemic.
