The leadership of the Ghana National Tomato Traders and Transporters Association (GNTTTA) has expressed gratitude to President Akufo-Addo, his appointees and the Mayor of Accra, Mohammed Adjei Sowah for the contingency measures taken by government in managing the markets in Ghana, particularly Accra and Kumasi.

A statement signed by  the Association’s Chairman,  Eric Osei Tuffour, noted that whilst market women generally failed to honour the advisory satisfactorily, government served notice that it was in control.

Ease

The Association also thanked the government for easing the lockdown directive. It stated in the release that the scheduling system employed by Assembly officials was a novelty that must be sustained in the pandemic fight in Ghana.

The statement added that the decision by the Mayor to lump tomato wholesalers at one point to regulate their activities in enhancing food safety and  averting post-harvest loss is also commendable since it is in line with ages old market day convention.

Mr. Tuffour therefore called on all market actors to comply so as to help the government manage the situation.
