Black Stars forward, Caleb Ekuban has apologized to Ghanaians for his inability to score for the team during the penalty shootout when his side met with the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia on Monday evening.
Ghana lost 4:5 on penalties following Ekuban’s weak penalty which was saved by the Tunisian goalkeeper Farouk Ben Mustapha.
The black Stars were at their all time best in this year’s AFCON Competition last night but Ekuban’s penalty miss propelled the Tunisians to progress to the quarterfinals stage of the competition at the expense of Ghana.
The match between Ghana and Tunisia ended 1-1 after Taha Khenissi’s shot went into the post of the Black Stars but the Stars levelled up the game after Rami Bedoui headed into his own net to force the game into extra-time.
With neither side able to find a winner after the regulation time and 30 minutes of extra time, the match went to penalties where Caleb Ekuban’s miss had an effect on the Black Stars from progessing into the next stage of the competition.
The player who could not control his tears for letting down his team after the game took to his twitter timeline to apologise to Ghanaians.
“I’m really sorry”. He wrote.
The Carthage Eagles of Tunisia will be meeting with the Barea of Madagascar at the quarter-final stage of the competition.
