The outgoing Eastern Regional Minister, Eric Kwakye Darfour, has appealed to the Indian High Commissioner to Ghana, Sugandh Rajaram, to expand the offer of its educational scholarships to Ghanaians.
He said when such opportunities are offered to the Ghanaian youth, especially in the area of technological education, it will help advance the national development agenda.
The outgoing Minister noted that the world is entering into a phase where a country will be stalled in development if it does not catch up with the fast developing education in science and technology.
Mr Darfour stressed that Ghana and India need to collaborate to strengthen bilateral relations for the benefits and a good future for the two countries.
Bilateral relations
The outgoing Minister was speaking at Koforidua on Tuesday when the Indian High Commissioner paid a courtesy call on Daasebre Oti Boateng, the paramount chief of New Juaben Traditional Area, as part of his (Indian High Commissioner) five-day tour of the Eastern Region.
The tour is to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral relations with Ghana and to also collaborate at the regional level for development and investment.
Mr Rajaram mentioned that India is ready to focus on agriculture at the regional level, with high level of technology to scale down its investments in the region to create job opportunities as well as improve the local economy.
He further stated that India would be having developmental discussions with the government of Ghana that would be centred on how to use technology to strengthen irrigation system and renewable energy among others.
Daasebre Oti Boateng called on the Indian government to collaborate and help raise the standards of his root-based institution theory, which is set to venture into indigenous herbs.
As part of the visit, the High Commissioner used the opportunity to interact with some beneficiaries of Indian scholarships in the region
