Kwasi Bonzoh congratulates Freddie Blay on becoming NPP National Chairman

A simple congratulatory message from the Ellembelle District Chief Executive (DCE), Kwasi Bonzoh, to Mr Freddie Blay on his reappointment as chairman of the board of directors of Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) has re-ignited a fight among party executives in the area.

While Mr Bonzoh’s loyalists insist there is nothing wrong sending a congratulatory message to his political godfather, his critics see the gesture as hypocritical.

This has resulted in exchange of unprintable words between the two factions, with some concerned residents calling for ceasefire in the interest of peace and development of Ellembelle.

The DCE’s critics maintain there is a long-standing rift between him and Mr Freddie Blay, and so he has no moral right sending that congratulatory message.

Skirt and blouse allegation

They said the message was not needed, after Mr Bonzoh allegedly campaigned against his godfather when he was seeking the office of NPP national chairman and Speaker of Parliament.                                                                   The critics have also accused Mr Bonzoh of allegedly telling the Osafo-Maafo Committee that Mr Blay preached and sponsored ‘skirt and blouse’ campaign   against him, as a three- time NPP parliamentary candidate for the constituency during last year’s election.

“You congratulate Chairman Blay in public to portray you like him, but instigate your boys to attack him on social media,” they fumed.

To them, Mr Bonzoh’s gesture is nothing but hypocrisy at its crescendo.

Godfather

The DCE however says Mr Blay remains his political godfather, irrespective of what his critics say or believe in.

He asked for divine wisdom for Mr Blay to continue providing the necessary support to the management of GNPC to ensure effective discharge of the corporation’s mandate.

He said the good people of Ellembelle would forever remain grateful to President Akufo-Addo for retaining “our proud daddy” to continue with the good work he started as GNPC board chairman during his first term.
