Mr Amoako Atta addresses durbar

The Minister of Roads and Highway, Kwasi Amoako Atta, has stated that government has given approval for the construction of eight footbridges along the central corridor roads.
He said works on the northern bound carriage, including the footbridges along the corridor, have been repackaged and awarded to China Water and Electric Corporation (CWE), in January 2019, at a cost of GHC49.6m and $64.2m, per the contractors’ revised programme.
The project, which is expected to be completed by April 2021, is to address the safety concerns of the inhabitants along the central corridor roads.
The Minister, who revealed this during a durbar in Suhum to commission the Suhum interchange, added that infrastructure development is dear to the heart of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, adding that the footbridges will decrease road accidents in the country.
Job creation
Mr Amoako Atta indicated that the construction of the central corridor roads has generated a lot of jobs in various categories to a number of local companies who were engaged as either suppliers or sub-contractors by the main contractor.
“All these works we are seeing today have impacted greatly on some lives in the country by creating a job space for some outstanding companies in the country to partner CWE in ensuring that the central corridor roads are made of quality and lasting impact,” the Minister stated.
He further cautioned the traveling public to be mindful of how they use the road.
“I am appealing to the Motor Transport and Traffic Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service to undertake regular speed checks on our highways to ensure compliance to the designed speed limit indicated by the Ghana Highway Authority,” he said.
