Mr. Dabbousi (in white) presents the meals to some of the beneficiaries.

A media columnist and private businessman, Fadi Dabbousi, has started distributing meals to some Zango communities in the Greater Accra Region. This is to help them in the ongoing Ramadan fast.

The Zango food distribution project is part of the businessman’s Food Train project, dubbed “Supporting the war against Covid -19 hand in hand with President Akufo-Addo”, that was started during the partial lockdown of some selected cities in the country.

According to Mr Dabbousi, who is a staunch member of the governing New Patriotic Party, although the lockdown has been lifted, there is an urgent need to “maintain shoulder to bumper to shore up government’s efforts at battling the penury that COVID-19 disease is unleashing.”

So far, hot meals have been presented to some mosques at Chantan, La Paz and other places. Distributing the food, he noted that “even though the partial lockdown has been lifted it doesn’t mean we as citizens shouldn’t help the government to get rid of the disease.”

“There are people who are wallowing in the adverse effects of the coronavirus pandemic. In support of President Nana Akufo-Addo, we have decided to embark on the distribution of food to our dear Muslims to help them break their fast. We are doing this to motivate people to come on board too, because Muslims need as much help as their brethren can afford to extend to them,” he said.

He added that the distribution of food is not being done on religious or political basis.

Ms Anita Ofori-Atta, a member of the NPP who accompanied Mr Dabbousi, advised the public to adhere to all the directives issued in protecting them from the disease. She asked them to continue washing their hands thoroughly and regularly, wear nose masks when going to public spaces, avoid close contact with people, use alcohol based hand sanitizer where possible, among others.

Food train

The Fadi Dabbousi Food Train is a project aimed at supporting the war against the deadly coronavirus pandemic. The project during the lockdown period presented meals to about 2500 vulnerable persons.

Mr Dabbousi says the rationale behind his food train is to assist in the alleviation of poverty in any way, this time targeting “rumbling stomachs”.

“The truth is that the President alone cannot control this pandemic. It behooves all of us to carry some responsibility. That is why we need to participate to ensure that we finally win the war against the deadly coronavirus disease,” he said.
