Authorities of Bright Senior High School in Akyem Kukurantumi of the Eastern Region has described as “fake news” publications in sections of the media that the School has been banned by the West African Examination Council (WAEC) .

Publications in sections of the media this week seem to suggest that WAEC has de-recognised the School for the next three years. The report cites the unfortunate incident which took place in the school where some WAEC invigilators were allegedly attacked by some few candidates during this year’s West Africa Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) .

However, according to Management of the School, it has not received any letter from the examination body to that effect, Therefore the report must be disregarded.

The Public Relations Officer of Bright Senior High School, Dr. Isaac Asare, told the media that management was notified about a publication online indicating that the school has been banned from writing WASSCE Exams for three years.

“We were so shocked because WAEC has not sent us any information or communication regarding that decision. Therefore, we decided to check the source and in the story one Asaase Radio was mentioned that they had a breakfast show where they interviewed a WAEC PRO” – he said.

“So we had to follow up and verify the authenticity of that story and we found from Asaase Radio’s editorial team that nothing of that sort exist. So we want to tell the public that they should disregard the story ,the story is not true. The school has not been communicated to regarding a decision of this kind” – he added.

Dr Asare urged the public, particularly parents, to cross check and authenticate any piece of information from the school to avert needless anxiety .

The PRO also urged the media to be circumspect in their publications threatening that henceforth the school will not hesitate to take legal action against media houses that publish fake news about the school, as a measure to protect its hard earned enviable reputation as a center of academic excellence.

Meanwhile management of the school say many of its students who sat for this year’s WASSCE examination recorded unprecedented performance in the provisional results released by the School.
