A former president of the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS), Sammy Binfoh, has given indication that he will be contesting the Adansi-Asokwa parliamentary seat in the upcoming parliamentary primaries of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), slated for April 25.
The Adansi-Asokwa seat is currently occupied by Kwabena Tahiru Hammond, who has been the MP for the area since 2000.

Should Mr. Binfoh become successful in his bid, he will be joining a tall list of young student leaders who are seeking to enter parliament next year.

In the recently held primaries in the “orphan” constituencies of the NPP, Dr Rashid Kwesi Ettuaful, 2016 president of the Graduate Students Association of Ghana (GRASAG), beat the district chief executive of Ajumako Enyan Essiam to become the NPP’s parliamentary candidate for the area.
During the NDC’s primaries, Frank Amoakohene, a former president of the National Health Students Association of Ghana (NAHSAG), and Mohammed Adams Sukparu, a former president of the Private Universities’ Students Association of Ghana (PUSAG), won in the Asante Mampong and the Sissala West constituencies, respectively, to become parliamentary candidates.

Mr Binfoh, native of Adansi-Hwiremoase in the Adansi Asokwa constituency, holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Finance, Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting (BBA) and ACCA Part 1 certificate.

The former NUGS president is also a former Students Representative Council (SRC) president of the Christian Service University College in Kumasi and the alumni president of the same school.
His colleagues describe him as “an activity oriented person and a team player with good leadership qualities.”
