Ayorkor Botchey, Ghana's Minister of Foreign Affairs
The Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration-designate, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, has said that Ghana is keen on tapping the skills and the expertise of the private sector of Qatar, especially in the area of Oil and Gas for mutual benefit.
To this end, she has urged her Qatari counterpart, Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, to use his good offices to encourage Qatari businessmen and investors to take advantage of the conducive business climate in Ghana to invest.
Ms Botchwey said this when she held discussions with Qatari Foreign Minister during an official visit to the State of Qatar this week.
Industrialisation
The Foreign Minister-designate acknowledged the assistance given to Ghana’s oil experts on their visit to Doha to understudy Qatar’s oil and gas revenue-monitoring architecture.
Ms Botchwey noted that Ghana has been keenly following the implementation of Qatar’s 5-year Food Security Programme from 2018-2023, which has led to Qatar being ranked first in food security country in the Middle East and 22nd Global Food Security Index.
She disclosed that Ghana has embarked on an industrialisation programme to improve the living standards of its citizens through its flagship programmes, notably, Planting for Food and Jobs, Free Senior High School, One District One Factory, One Village One Dam, infrastructural development, among other programmes.
She lauded the Qatari government for the peace-building role it has been playing in the Middle East and express optimism that there will be a lasting resolution of conflicts in the region.
Ms Botchwey was confident that the various signed Agreements between the two countries will serve as a sustainable framework for forging stronger bonds of cooperation between Ghana and Qatar.
