The Chief Executive Officer of Berry Ladies, Gifty Oware-Mensah, has been elected as the Women’s Representative on the Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) Executive Council.
She was unanimously endorsed by all 20 women’s premier league clubs who voted in the election at the GFA Congress in Tamale.
Speaking to the media, she noted that this development is a significant step in promoting gender equality and women’s participation in football governance in Ghana.
Mrs Oware-Mensah added that her election highlights the trust and confidence that the women’s football community has in her leadership and vision for the sport.
Her tenure as the Women’s Representative on the GFA Executive Council is expected to usher in a new era of progress and inclusivity for women’s football in the country.
Flying high
The Berry Ladies’ owner recently served as a director of marketing for the 2023 African Paralympic Games which took place in Accra from September 3 to September 12, 2023.
The high-flying top football official has also transformed Berry Ladies into an enviable model club. She has a major stake in Berekum Chelsea, serving as the Vice-President of the Ghana Premier League side.
She is also currently a management member of the Black Maidens, the ladies U-17 national team, and also serves as the Vice Chairperson of the Super Cup committee of the Ghana Football Association (GFA).
Mrs Oware-Mensah is also the Deputy Executive Director of the National Service Scheme, and has been largely credited for talent identification and setting a career path for several women footballers dotted across the country.

Mrs Gifty Oware-Mensah had her secondary education at the Ghana Secondary School before proceeding to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) where she studied for a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History. She also holds a postgraduate certificate in Management of Democratic Elections in Africa (MDA) from the University of South Africa and an MSc in Defence and International Politics at the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College (GAFCSC).
She holds an Executive Development Certificate in Women in Leadership from Stellenbosch University; Executive Education in Digital Marketing from Yale University; Executive Certificate, Globalization from Oxford University; Business Management / Global Governance / Project Management from International Business Management Institute and Project Management Certificate from Swiss School of Business and Management.
Mrs Oware-Mensah began her career as the events and marketing manager for reflects marketing plus in Accra from 2011 to 2014. In 2014 she joined the Danquah Institute, a political think-thank focused on making a courageous, imaginative and constructive contribution to nation-building and development, with the purpose of enhancing the life of every individual citizen.
Prior to her appointment as the Deputy Director of the National Service Scheme, she was the Director of Research and Media Relations at the Institute.
