The New Patriotic Party (NPP) government has reaffirmed its commitment to addressing the longstanding issue of road infrastructure in Koforidua. Michael Okyere Baafi, Member of Parliament for New Juaben South, has assured residents that efforts are underway to fix all roads in the area.
The Eastern Regional Minister, the Municipal Chief Executive, and Hon. Michael Okyere Baafi have been working tirelessly over the years to ensure that the roads in Koforidua receive the attention they deserve. Notably, the MP personally lobbied for the construction of roads in Nyamekrom, Magazine, and Trom, which were initially not part of the government’s earmarked projects for the constituency.
Mr Baafi’s persistent advocacy for the prioritization of road rehabilitation in Koforidua has been evident through his engagement with constituents via various media platforms. His regular appearances on Koforidua-based Afeema 103.3 FM on Mondays have provided a platform for addressing the concerns of the residents.
With concerted efforts, the plans to fix all town roads, including ancillary, auxiliary, and tributary roads in New Juaben South, are already in motion. More than 80% of the roads in Koforidua have been contracted, and the construction companies will soon mobilize to commence and complete their work.
However, the road construction projects experienced a setback due to the suspension of such works mandated by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) agreements. This contributed to the slower progress in road rehabilitation.
Following the recent approval from the IMF, the government intends to launch extensive road construction projects across the country, including the roads in Koforidua.
Mr Baafi has urged residents of New Juaben South to remain patient, assuring them that the stalled road construction will soon resume.
“I want to assure all constituents that myself as MP, the Hon. Municipal Chief Executive, and the Eastern Regional Minister have been actively working to secure more road projects for New Juaben South,” Hon. Baafi stated.
While acknowledging the residents’ intention to demonstrate for road rehabilitation, the MP emphasized that these demonstrations coincided with the ongoing behind-the-scenes efforts to address the issue. He called on residents to stay positive, as better days lie ahead for Koforidua.
In the coming weeks, residents of New Juaben South can expect to witness significant progress in the road rehabilitation projects, bringing a renewed sense of beauty to Koforidua.
