The government of Ghana and the largest opposition party, the National Democratic Congress are set to hold separate events to talk about the country’s economy and Ghana’ exit from the IMF.
Vice President Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia is expected to lead an economic management team town hall meeting with stakeholders on the economy on April 3 in Accra.
On Thursday, April 4, former President John Mahama will also be the guest of honour for a public lecture to review the economy before, during and after the International Monetary Fund (IMF) programme.
According to Minister for Information Kojo Oppong Nkrumah who disclosed this at a Press Briefing in Accra, the vice President who is also the head of the Economic Management Team will be speaking on the theme “our progress, our status, our future”.
On the other hand the NDC lecture, which will take place at the Mensvic Hotel at East Legon in Accra and will be addressed by the NDC Member of Parliament for Bolgatanta Central constituency and financial analyst, Mr Isaac Adongo will be on the theme ‘Ghana’s rising fiscal risks, financial crunch and external vulnerabilities: A post-mortem of the Extended Credit Facility (ECF) Programme and a preview of the economy without the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
The government’s town Hall meeting engagement will be attended by civil society groups, economic think tanks, trade unions and stakeholders in the financial sector.
The NDC however is inviting the general public to their engagement.
The various engagements are expected to aside from the IMF issues speak on cost of living, cedi depreciation, inflation, cost of doing business among other things.
