Ayorkor Botchey, Ghana's Minister of Foreign Affairs
The Government of Ghana, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, says it will deliberate on the idea of the establishment of Pakistan diplomatic mission in Accra.
This follows a request from the Government of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to establish its diplomatic mission in the country.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration-designate, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, acknowledged with deep satisfaction the excellent long-standing cordial relations that exist between Ghana and Pakistan, based on mutual friendship and solidarity.
She reaffirmed Ghana’s desire to further widen and deepen the relations for the mutual benefit of the two countries.
The Minister-designate made this known when the Charge d’Affaires of the Embassy of Pakistan in Abuja, Nigeria, Aamir Abbasi, personally delivered a letter from Pakistan Foreign Minister, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, at her Ministry on Tuesday.
Ghana’s business environment
She appreciated the economic gains made by Pakistan due to efforts made by the leadership of that country to tap into its natural resources, especially timber, textiles and other variety of goods.
It is in this direction that the Foreign Minister-designate underscored the need to strengthen cooperation between Ghana and Pakistan in the area of trade and investment.
Ms Botchwey urged the Charge d’Affaires to take note of the conducive business environment in Ghana with the view to fostering serious partnerships between the private sectors of both countries.
Multilateral
On the multilateral approach, Ms Botchwey indicated that Ghana, being a peace-loving country, would continue to be an active player in the search for a comprehensive and peaceful solution to the raging conflicts in the Middle East, especially in Syria, Lebanon and Palestine.
She further called on Pakistan and all peace-loving countries to adopt a multilateral approach to bring peace to the Middle East.
Serbia
Earlier on Tuesday, the Minister-designate received the Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia to Ghana, Djura LIKAR, where she observed that though bilateral trade relations between Ghana and Serbia is modest, the coming into force of African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA) should serve as a medium for Serbian investors to explore new opportunities in Africa with Ghana as the entry port.
To this end, she urged Serbian investors to take advantage of this development, identify their areas of interest and use the conducive business environment in Ghana as a springboard to access the continental market.
Ms Botchwey noted the cooperation between Ghana and Serbia, particularly in recent times, which have been marked by the exchange of notable high-level visits.
