Dr Mark Assibey-Yeboah

The National Chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party, Frederick Worsemao Armah Blay, has disclosed that, contrary to assertion that the hierarchy of the party worked against the Member of Parliament for New Juaben South, Dr Mark Assibey Yeboah, in the just end parliamentary primaries, it was his wish that the MP had retained his seat.

Freddie Blay, as the NPP Chairman is popularly called, said his desire to have seen Dr Assibey Yeboah, who is also the Chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Finance, retain his seat is due to the ‘vital role’ he plays in the legislative house.

“Of course, I’m speaking with facts. I would have preferred Assibey-Yeboah to have retained the seat, considering the very vital role he has been playing as Chairman of the Finance Committee in Parliament,” the NPP Chairman said.

Speaking to the media after the primaries, Mr Blay said he was confident that Dr Assibey Yeboah was going to maintain his seat ahead of the primaries. “But, as I said, it is democracy and if it’s a contest, he was confident and I believe somehow very confident he would return to Parliament,” he said

Primaries

Dr Assibey Yeboah, who has served as a MP for New Juaben South for eight years, lost in the NPP’s parliamentary primaries held over the weekend.

He lost to Michael Okyere Baafi, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Free Zones Authority. Dr Assibey-Yeboah has since pledged to help the party retain the seat, after conceding defeat and congratulating his opponent.
