The Ghana Police Service has launched a Horse Patrol operations to aid in its fight against crime in the country.
Speaking yesterday in Accra on behalf of the acting Inspector General of Police, George Akuffo-Dampare, the Director General of National Patrols Department (NPD), COP Yaagy Akuribah, advised the police officers (troopers) detailed for such duties to demonstrate professionalism in all aspect of their work.
He urged the troopers to assist in building the trust and public confidence within the communities since they are among the first port of call when it comes to security.
The Acting IGP noted that the introduction of the Horse Patrol operations is to augment efforts to strengthen and fight crime through a joint operation of the Service.
Combat crime
He said the patrol is part of the Ghana Police Service’s way of preventing crime, adding that it provides security in a friendly and interactive manner, with officers on horseback.
This, he added, would augment other patrol duties such as community foot patrol, motor bike patrol, visibility patrol, and the recently introduced Motorcycle Traffic Management and Mobility Teams in Tema and Accra.
Also in a brief remark, the Director-General in-charge of Information Communication Technology (ICT), COP Edward Tabiri, assured the officers of communication logistical support during their duty tours in order to communicate efficiently for assistance.
Present at the launch were the Director-General of Research and Planning, COP Paul Awini Manly; the Director-General of National Protection Directorate, COP Patrick Atampugre Akolgo; the Director-General of Special Duties, COP Vincent Redeemer Dedjoe; the Director-General of Operations, DCOP Mohammed Fuseini Suraji as well as other senior officers.
