The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has debunked claims that it has changed the date for its upcoming presidential and parliamentary primaries slated for April 25.
The statement signed by the party’s general secretary, John Boadu, said: “NPP wishes to state once again that the date for the party’s parliamentary and presidential primaries still remains April 25, 2020”.
The statement added that “any communication to the contrary should be treated with all the contempt that it deserves.”
Rumour of postponement
There was rumour on social media and some traditional media recently that the party was considering changing its date for the primaries.
The reports alleged that the supposed latest decision had become necessary following the Electoral Commission’s decision to commence the compilation of new voters’ register on April 18 2020.
The reports further alleged that the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) was expected to meet in the course of the week to agree on the supposed new date for the primaries.
