The National Women Organiser of the ruling New Patriotic Party, Ms. Kate Gyamfua has called on volunteer groups within the party to give respect to structures in the party.
According to her, volunteer groups are not islands within the party and must therefore not usurp powers of elected officials and try to look down on them.
Ms. Gyamfua was speaking to the Evening Mail on the sidelines of a workshop organized by the loyal ladies of the NPP at the Eastern Regional Capital, Koforidua.
She advised the ladies to work in tandem with party structures and join their programs with programs and activities of the elected women organisers of the various constituencies who lead the women’s wing in those constituencies.
Concerns
There have been growing concerns of acrimony and rivalry among the various volunteer groups and between the groups and the women’s wing.
Ms. Gyamfua in an attempt to solve the acrimony, last week met with the leaders of about 19 different volunteer groups at Accra to iron out all differences.
To ensure that the impasse is solved, all constituency women organisers of the party in the Eastern Region were made to attend the loyal ladies workshop at Koforidua.
Ms. Gyamfua pleaded with the women organisers to let the waters that have passed under the bridge go and calve a new path with the loyal ladies.
Acceptance and Apology
On her part, Captain of the Eastern Region Loyal Ladies, Ms. Agyare Abigail Owusua accepted their fault and pleaded for forgiveness from the women organisers.
Speaking with us, Ms. Owusua said, the loyal ladies when it was formed embarked on several activities without recourse to the women’s wing hence the perceived acrimony.
She stated that, the perceived differences is what necessitated the workshop in order for the leadership to let the members of the group know that they are not in to compete with the women’s wing or any other volunteer group but to complement in helping the NPP achieve its goals.
Commendation
The Eastern Regional Secretary of the party, Mr. Jeff Konadu Addo commended the ladies for the yeoman’s job they did before and during the 2016 general election.
He stated that the party will continue to work with the loyal ladies and advised other volunteer groups to emulate the hard work of the loyal ladies. He also pleaded with the constituency women organisers to forgive the ladies if they have done anything wrong with them and forge ahead together.
100% for Akufo-Addo
The Deputy National Youth Organiser of the party, Ms. Perpetual Lomokie Akwada who was also at the function used the occasion to tout some achievement of the government within two years.
In an interview with the Daily Statesman, Ms. Akwada scored the ‘miraculous performance’ of the government 100%.
She stated that the many achievement of the administration within two years have given credence to the biblical allusion that “God is still in the miracle business.”
She pleaded with the youth of Ghana to continue to believe in the government since all programs and policies of the government which are purposively targeted at the youth point to the fact that, the government has the youth at heart.
