Police in the Ashanti Region have mounted a search for one Nana Asamoah, a goldsmith believed to be behind the shooting of his colleague after a misunderstanding ensued between the two at Dr. Mensah, a suburb of Kumasi last night.

The suspect fired three shots injuring the victim identified as Nana Brentuo.

Speaking to Citi News, the Manyhia Divisional Police Commander, ACP Kweku Buah urged the suspect to turn himself in.

“We have not been able to trace him. We are looking for him to arrest him so if he is listening to your very popular radio station, I am asking him to report himself to the Police.”

Nana Brentuo was in critical condition after the incident.

The victim was rushed to the Manhyia District Hospital and subsequently referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.

According to his apprentice, Evans Kwesi Dabanka, the disagreement started after the suspect’s customer sent his gold to the victim’s shop to be worked on.

He narrated;

“when he missed the first shot, our boss tried to escape but Nana Asamoah shot again. My boss picked up a chair and threw it Nana Asamoah in defence. I could tell that he did so out of fear and frustration. When my boss tried to get out, Nana Asomah shot at him again for the third time. Luckily, the shot hit the herm of his used clothing which made him fall. If it hadn’t been the fall, my boss will have been shot in the head.”

“I can’t really tell the reason for the disagreement but my boss is in a critical condition. He is in serious pain and if care is not taken, he may lose his life”, he added.
