Staff of Zoomlion ready to disinfect one of the military garrisons

Zoomlion Ghana Limited, in partnership with the government, last Tuesday began the disinfection and dis-infestation of about 55 military installations located in both the Volta and Oti regions.

Apart from the military installations, the disinfection in 2,654 private and public basic and senior high schools in the two regions also began.

Again, all public places, including police installations, in the two regions will be disinfected.

The Volta Regional Minister, Dr Archibald Letsa, speaking at a short ceremony at the Regional Coordinating Council, Ho, said the 55 military facilities, which would be covered under the exercise include, Volta Barrack, in Ho; Naval Training Command. in Sogakope; Akoefe Training Camp, Operation AHODWO Camps, Nkonya/Alavanyo; Operation GONGONG, in Kete Karachi; Operation Safe Camp, in Hohoe; Operation SITDOWN LOOK Camp, in Aflao; MOC, Kpando Torkor; MOC Dambai, among others.

The exercise forms part of efforts by the government to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus disease in the two regions.

School reopening

The exercise comes after President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, in his 10th address to the nation on the Covid-19 situation in the country, announced a partial easing of restrictions on social gathering, and also asked schools and universities to partially re-open.

The reopening, which begins from June 15, 2020, is to allow for final year university, SHS and JHS students to resume classes for their impending exit examinations.

Dr Letsa explained that as part of preparations to reopen the schools, 20 tertiary institutions in the two regions would also be disinfected.

To this end, the Minister has charged all Municipal/District Chief Executives in the two regions to engage their respective directors of education to monitor the exercise in schools within their jurisdictions.
