Former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings has urged loyalists of the late former President Rawlings to vote for the National Democratic Party (NDP) and its 44 parliamentary candidates on December 7.
The former First Lady, in a statement signed on her behalf by the Secretary General of NDP, Alhaji Mohammed Frimpong, explained that her absence from the political scene, despite the closeness of the December 7 elections, was to afford her the opportunity to mourn her late husband
She said having founded the party together with Mr Rawlings in 2012, it is very important that in accordance with the tenets of the party, she respectfully takes time to honour and mourn him.
“Indeed, my dear husband, the late Flt.Lt. Jerry John Rawlings, whose legacy will forever live on, stood tall on the political landscape in Ghana,” she said.
She took a swipe at the NDC for attacking the late former President when he was alive.
“Despite coordinated attacks by some elements of the NDC, a party which he founded, to destroy his legacy prior to his untimely demise, posterity will forever, remember him for his great and selfless contributions to that party and Ghana,” she said
NDP promise
Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings said the NDP has promised to formulate and implement good policies to continue economic growth in a multi-dimensional approach underpinned by two areas: industrialization and agriculture.
“Our manifesto also recognises the tax burden on industries and therefore we will review Ghana’s tax regime by substantially reducing or phasing out numerous regressive taxes. We will also introduce tax-intensives to enterprising companies,” she assured.
Peaceful elections
Whilst thanking the people of Ghana for empathizing with her during the demise of her husband, she said she was hopeful Ghana would once again sail through the election successfully devoid of violence.
“I also urge voters to strictly adhere to all Covid-19 safety protocols that will be implemented at the various polling stations across the country. In the end, Ghana will emerge victorious with our democracy intact,” the former First Lady said.
