The national youth organiser of the governing New Patriotic Party, Henry Nana Boakye, has stated that no amount of character assassination, vilification and insults will demoralise him from demanding responsible and statesman-like disposition from former President John Dramani Mahama and other elements within the NDC.
He was responding to suggestions by the national youth organiser of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), George Opare Addo, he should be immediately arrested, investigated and prosecuted for illegal mining.
Allegations of galamsey
The NDC youth organiser’s call followed suggestions by the Assin Central Member of Parliament (MP), Ken Agyepong, that Nana B, as the NPP national youth organiser is popularly known, is engaged in illegal mining or galamsey activities.
Meanwhile, the Assin Central MP has since withdrawn the allegations and apologised to the NPP youth leader.
Mr Agyepong is alleged to have made the claims on his television station, Net 2 TV, on Wednesday February 27 2020.
The NDC youth organiser says his call for investigations and subsequent prosecution is necessary because galamsey has been a canker eating society.
According to him, if a youth organiser, who is supposed to be a role model, is involved in such an act, then that cannot be swept under the carpet.
“Ken Agyepong is not just any person; he is a leading member of the NPP and cannot just make an unfounded allegation against Nana B for nothing. So we believe it must be investigated…so we will all know the truth,” he said.
Unfounded allegations
However, according to Nana B, the allegations that he is engaged in galamsey are unfounded.
In a statement, he said, having engaged and explained things to the Assin Central MP, with ample evidence to establish that he has nothing to do with the galamsey issues, the MP, as a fair minded leader, has consequently amended his earlier position after cross-checking the evidence presented to him.
“Let me state without a shred of equivocation that I have never ever been involved in galamsey as sheepishly alleged by the NDC national youth organiser,” he stated.
Resolute
Nana B further stated that he finds it absurd and shallow the thinking of the NDC that waging such vicious media war against him will silence him.
He indicated that he understands his condemnation of the “irresponsible and reckless” comments by the NDC’s flagbearer, John Mahama, to the effect that there would be chaos in the country if the EC fails to listen to the NDC and go ahead to compile a new voters’ register, is what has devastated the NDC for which they have sworn to get back at him.
He said any attempt by the NDC youth leader to ride on the back of Mr Agyepong’s comments to keep on attacking him is not only unfortunate, but shows how weak the NDC’s propaganda strategies towards him are.
Nana B has, thus, admonished the NDC youth leader to rather find more “noble and effective ways to mobilise the disgruntled youth in the NDC and also not allow himself to be used in this fruitless and purposeless agenda.
