The National Democratic Party (NDP) has started preparation ahead of the 2020 general election. As such the party has started electing constituency and regional officers who will be managing the affairs of the party as 2020 inches closer.

The party therefore over the weekend held its Eastern Regional delegates conference where new regional officers were elected into office in Koforidua, the Eastern regional Capital. The exercise which was supervised by the Electoral Commission saw 14 newly elected officers being sworn into office.

Speaking at the Conference, the General Secretary of the Party, Alhaji Mohammed Frimpong, asked the newly elected executives to devise strategies that will energise the party at the grassroot.

He stated that the NDP’s main priority is to give power to the people and charged the new officers to live up to this aim of the Party.

  SUPPORT FOR ELECTION OF MMDCEs

The General Secretary said due to the party’s believe in the power to the grassroot, it supports the decision of the ruling government to let the people elect their own Metropolitan Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs). He called on the newly elected regional officers to join forces in campaigning for YES votes for the referendum slated for December. This according to Alhaji Frimpong will give true power to the people.

Apaw Gideon, the newly elected Regional General Secretary, said the party is going to put measures in place to ensure that they increase their fortunes in the 2020 general elections.

He disclosed that as part of their restructuring agenda, the party is dividing the region into blocks namely; the Kwahu Block, the Akyem Block, the Akuapem Block and the Krobo Block to be able to identify their various strong holds and to also equip Constituency executives with strong campaign messages that are relevant to their blocks. This according to the Regional Secretary is one of the strategies to whip up grassroot support for the party.
