New Juaben traditional council has decided on the celebration of their Akwantukese festival from 6th October to 23rd November 2019.
Sitting in state and directing affairs, the paramount chief of the traditional area, Daasebre Emeritus Professor Oti Boateng said rather than the normal pump and pageantry, the festival would have a major focus on development.
This was arrived at the council’s meeting held at the Omanhene’s palace at Koforidua on Friday, 12th July 2019.
The festival is therefore dubbed Implementation of Root-Based Economic Development (rBED).
The 2019 Akwantukese celebration would set aside a Traditional Area Development Day (TADD) to initiate and sustain the implementation of Daasebre’s Award Winning Root-Based Economic Development (rBED) model.
The model is aimed at building sustainable community development through the reduction of poverty, provision of basic needs such as housing, food, clothing, health, education and more importantly involvement of the active citizenship in their own development.
By description and direction, each community within the traditional area would establish a Community Economic and Development Investment (CEDI) Council which would be run on business lines to generate business and create wealth to advance the economic development of the various communities.
A Traditional Area Fiscal and Economic Development (TRAFED) council would be established to coordinate the activities of the CEDI councils.
The CEDI councils and the TEAFED councils would form a robust foundation upon which the superstructure of community development governance in the New Juaben Traditional Area encompassing its communicative and operative impact would rest.
Each CEDI Council would implement a tripod Strategic Integrated Community Development Plan and Community Development Blueprint.
The redesigned Akwantukese has a New Awards System; The Yiadom – Hwedie Leadership Awards to honor Traditional Leaders, Community Leaders, Development Partners and External Agencies who have contributed to the development of New Juaben
With the importance of education and the development of the youth, the Traditional Council, as part of the celebration, has initiated an award scheme for school children.
The Council has set aside special prizes for that purpose and caused quiz competition to be organized among all the sixty-six Junior High Schools (JHS) in New Juaben to inculcate enthusiasm for constant learning.
The Paramount chief of New Juaben traditional area, Daasebre Emeritus Professor Oti Boateng, said by this redesign, New Juaben Akwantukese would henceforth support the government to bring development into communities.
